Glorified Maple Gingerbread

It has been a little bit since we took to the kitchen to document a favorite recipe and with the first day of fall this past week, we were inspired to get back to what we love to bake with - MAPLE! Try this distinctively sweet and spicy gingerbread made with our 100% pure maple sugar. It will make you feel warm and cozy. It's the perfect dessert for the next tailgate, friendly fall gathering or just a weeknight treat this fall. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

2 T molasses (Brer Rabbit)

1 egg

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp ginger

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp baking soda in 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk

A metal baking pan is filled with a brown gingerbread topped with a lighter tan crumb topping.
A pan of Glorified Maple Gingerbread hot and ready to serve!

Directions:

Mix together flour, butter and maple sugar. Reserve 1/2 cup of crumb mixture for topping bread before baking. Add molasses, egg, spices and baking soda in milk to remaining flour/butter/sugar mixture. (To make sour milk, add 2 tsp of vinegar to 1 cup of milk) When combined, add batter to a greased and floured 9x9 inch pan. Sprinkle top with remaining crumb mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream!
